    5 Practices For Christ-centered Teams

    Colossians 4:7-18

Big Idea: Christ-centered teamwork is vital for the mission of the church.

  • Colossians 4:7-9 (ESV) Tychicus will tell you all about my activities. He is a beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. 8 I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are and that he may encourage your hearts, 9 and with him Onesimus, our faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They will tell you of everything that has taken place here.

Philemon 11 (NIV) …formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me.

  • Colossians 4:10 (ESV) Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, and Mark the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom you have received instructions—if he comes to you, welcome him)…

Colossians 4:11 (ESV) and Jesus who is called Justus. These are the only men of the circumcision among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me.

  • Colossians 4:12 (ESV) Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.

  • Colossians 4:13-14 (ESV) For I bear him witness that he has worked hard for you and for those in Laodicea and in Hierapolis. 14 Luke the beloved physician greets you, as does Demas.

  • Colossians 4:15 (ESV) Give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house.

  • Colossians 4:16 (ESV) And when this letter has been read among you, have it also read in the church of the Laodiceans; and see that you also read the letter from Laodicea.

  • one another.

  • Colossians 4:17 (ESV) And say to Archippus, “See that you fulfill the ministry that you have received in the Lord.”

  • for one another.

  • Colossians 4:18 (ESV) I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.

  • Verde Discussion Questions

    Break It Out:

    1. What initially grabs your attention in this text? What questions or thoughts arise as you reflect on what it is saying?

    Talk It Out:

    2. In Colossians 4:7-18, the apostle Paul references several individuals by name. Why do you think he took the time to acknowledge and mention these specific people?

    3. What can we learn about Christ-centered teamwork from the way Paul describes his interactions with these individuals?

    4. Reflecting on the description of a Christ-centered team and its practices, which practices stand out to you and why?

    5. How can you develop these practices within your own life and within the Christ-centered Team at Verde Community Church?

    6. How does the concept of Christ-centered teams, as demonstrated in this passage, apply to our modern-day Christian communities and relationships?

    7. In Colossians 4:12, Epaphras is described as someone who diligently engages in the hard work of prayer and ministry. What can we learn from his example as we consider our roles at Verde Community Church?

    8. Consider the description of fellowship displayed through this Christ-centered team. How can you help create a more dynamic fellowship at Verde Community Church?

    Work It Out:

    9. What is God asking you to do to walk out the truths of this teaching?
