Final Words: Week 2

Luke 23:32-43 - "Final Words" (The Word of Assurance)
  • Luke 23:32–43 ESV 32 Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. 33 And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. 34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments. 35 And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!” 36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine 37 and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” 38 There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.” 39 One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

  • in Jesus' words.
  • PARADISE IS A PERSON AS MUCH AS IT IS A PLACE.

  • will live on after death. Death is not the end...but the beginning of a new life.
  • of one kind or another
  • Break It Out:

    1. How would describe yourself in a crowd? Mingler, Participator, Observer, or Bystander?

    2. What was your most important takeaway from Sunday's sermon?
  • Talk it Out:

    3. What are some practical ways we might demonstrate the hope we have in Christ to the lost and dying people around us?

    4. How would you describe what Jesus’ death on the cross accomplished for those who believe in Him?

    5. How might we, as a group here at Verde, help one another center our lives around the death and resurrection of Jesus?

    6. The 1st thief died in his sin. Have you ever witnessed someone that was so hard hearted and they continuously refused to receive Christ? How did this affect you?

    7. The 2nd thief died to his sin. Share an example of someone you know that placed their faith in Jesus and how their life was changed! How did this affect you?

    8. Jesus died for Sin. Since Jesus died for us and took our place, how should that affect our worship not only on Sunday but each and every day?

  • Work It Out:

    9. Our challenge is to not just mingle, observe, or stand by but to participate as the core of the church. What is one step you can take to help move your commitment level toward the core of the church?

    10. How can your small group pray for you? Or is there a prayer request you would like to share with our prayer team? (prayer@verdecc.com)

Best Day Ever At Home is a three-week series created to do as a family at home. It will help kids learn why Easter is the best day ever and how every day can be the best day ever when they are following Jesus!

Each week includes a family lesson that parents can use at home with both preschool and elementary kids, as well as a preschool video and an elementary video that will show kids how God promised to make a way for us to be friends with Him forever, how Jesus was God’s plan for fulfilling that promise, and how that makes Jesus the best ever!

For a full kids worship service option.

We’re partnering with Life Church to provide an age appropriate 30-minute worship service for kids.  We’re partnering with parents to help lead their children to become fully devoted followers of Christ.
